Hemp Hurds

Hemp hurds, also known as shives or hemp wood, are an agricultural product made from hemp. Hurds consist of the woody inner portion of the hemp stalk, broken into pieces and separated from the fiber in the processes of breaking and scutching and correspond to the shives in flax, but are coarser and usually softer in texture. Hurds have traditionally been a by-product of fiber production.

Hemp Oil

Hemp oil or hempseed oil is obtained by pressing hemp seeds. Cold pressed, unrefined hemp oil is dark to clear light green in color, with a nutty flavor. The darker the color, the grassier the flavor. It should not be confused with hash oil, a tetrahydrocannabinol-containing oil made from the Cannabis flower, hailed by some for its medicinal qualities.

Hempcrete

Hempcrete or Hemplime is bio-composite material, a mixture of hemp hurds (shives) and lime (possibly including natural hydraulic lime, sand, pozzolans) used as a material for construction and insulation. It is marketed under names like Hempcrete, Canobiote, Canosmose, and Isochanvre. Hempcrete is easier to work with than traditional lime mixes and acts as an insulator and moisture regulator. It lacks the brittleness of concrete and consequently does not need expansion joints. The result is a lightweight insulating material ideal for most climates as it combines insulation and thermal mass.

Herb

Slang term for cannabis and refers to the many similarities between cannabis and other popular cooking herbs and spices. It helps the comparison that cannabis happens to be a green, leafy substance that just so happens to be delicious when added to pasta, pizza, or any dinner dish that could benefit from liberal spicing.

Hermaphrodite

Having flowers of both sexes on the same cannabis plant - are more correctly referred to as 'intersex.'

Hertz (or Hz)

A unit of frequency that cycle one time each second - a home with a 60-hertz Alternating Current (or AC) current cycles 60 times per second.

Heterosis

Hybrid vigor such that an F1 hybrid falls outside the performance range of cannabis parents with respects to some character or characters - usually applied to size, the rate of growth or general vigor.

Heterozygous Loci

Regions along homologous chromosomes that have different alleles.

High-Cannabinoid Full Spectrum Extract (or HCFSE)

Created through hydrocarbon extraction with an emphasis on cannabinoid preservation.

High-Intensity Discharge (or HID) Lamp

Type of lamp used in many indoor grow rooms, High-Intensity Discharge (or HID) lamps are a type of electrical gas-discharge lamp which produces light by means of an electric arc between tungsten electrodes housed inside a translucent or transparent fused quartz or fused alumina arc tube. Various types of chemistry are used in the arc tubes of HID lamps, depending on the desired characteristics of light intensity, correlated color temperature, Color Rendering Index (or CRI), energy efficiency, and lifespan.
