Marijuana, or marihuana, is a name for the cannabis plant and more specifically a drug preparation from it. 'Marijuana' as a term varies in usage, definition and legal application around the world. Some jurisdictions define 'marijuana' as the whole cannabis plant or any part of it, while others refer to 'marijuana' as a portion of the cannabis plant that contains high levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC). Some jurisdictions recognize 'marijuana' as a distinctive strain of cannabis, the other being hemp. The form 'marihuana' is first attested in Mexican Spanish; it then spread to other varieties of Spanish and to English, French, and other languages.

Marijuana Infused Product (or MIP)

It refers to products that are prepared with cannabis concentrates and are subject to different labeling requirements like the list of ingredients, their respective profiles, directions for use and a disclaimer.

Mary Jane

The term and fictional lady character of ‘Mary Jane’ is a play on the sound of the pronunciation of 'cannabis.' When cannabis was more taboo, using the term ‘Mary Jane’ was an undercover way of referring to the plant. However, as today’s culture grows and matures the taboo nature has dropped and the term has become so popular most everyone knows the reference.


In the cannabis industry, medical usually refers to cannabis grown in a regulated medical market and you usually buy it in a dispensary. Some jurisdictions, however, have systems that link patients with personal caregivers who provide medical cannabis, or that allow patients to simply grow their own medicine at home.


Being 'medicated' is a term similar to being stoned or high. Most recently, the medical community has coined this term to help change the stigma surrounding the consumption of cannabis.
