N

N-Arachidonoyl dopamine (NADA)

Discovered in 2000, NADA preferentially binds to the CB1 receptor. Like anandamide, NADA is also an agonist for the vanilloid receptor subtype 1 (TRPV1), a member of the vanilloid receptor family.

N-P-K

Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) are the three major cannabis plant nutrients.


Nabilone (Cesamet)

A synthetic tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) pharmaceutical approved in the U.S. for the treatment of the nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy.

Nail

This tool works in conjunction with a dabbing rig, the nail is heated with a torch to vaporize cannabis hash oil when it is applied, which allows for it to be smoked. It is called a nail due to its resemblance of a nail with a thick head. When you heat the nail it will turn red, then you must allow it to cool just until the red color fades and place the cannabis on the head in order to heat and vaporize your smokables.

Nanometer (nm)

One billionth of a meter (or 0.000000001 meter), nm is used as a scale to measure electromagnetic wavelengths of light - color and light spectrums are expressed in nanometers.


National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is a branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose mission is to develop new knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health and to transfer that knowledge into practice.

National Standards Body (NSB)

One public or private sector organization that serves as an economy’s member body to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). In addition, some National Standards Bodies (NSB's) may also serve as a coordinator of domestic standards activities.

Necrosis (Necrotic)

Localized death of a cannabis plant part due to injury or disease.


Nectar

Not commonly used, nectar often refers to the process of making hash oil only from flower nugs, rather than trim.

Negative Pressure Room

A pressurized room that keeps dust and contaminants within a room and prevents dust and contaminants from getting into other rooms.

Neurodegenerative Disease

A degenerative disorder of neuronal tissues, brain cells, and neurons, such as Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis.

Neuromodulation

Physiological process by which a neuron uses neurotransmitters to regulate diverse populations of neurons.

Neuropathic Pain

Pain caused by damage to the somatosensory nervous system (ex. related to the sense of feeling pain and is often described as burning or shooting pain).

Nevada Department of Taxation

The Nevada Department of Taxation is the regulatory authority in Nevada that oversees the cannabis industry.

Nitrogen (N)

An essential element for growing cannabis, it is one of the three major nutrients N-P-K.


Node

A joint on the stem or the position on the cannabis plant from which leaves, shoots, or flowers grow.


Non-Compliance

Non-compliance in the cannabis industry means that a cannabis business is not in compliance with specific government or local laws. The business will be at risk of penalties from either the regulators or local government which include but are not limited to, fines, revoking of a license, or other consequences.

Non-Conformance

The non-fulfillment of a specified requirement. A non-conformance usually leads to rejection or reworking of the item or process.

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID)

One of a class of drugs that provides anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic (ex. fever-reducing) effects.

Normal Flora

Micro-organisms which normally inhabit a healthy human body or natural environment.

Normal Operating Range

The normal operating limits of the instrument, equipment, or system as required for operation within a process.

Normal Production Operations

Utilization of a machine or equipment to perform its intended production function.

Nug

An individual bud of cannabis is often referred to as a 'nug,' a reference to a gold nugget.

Nug Run

Hash oil extracted from cannabis that is made of all high quality nugs. Normally, hash oil would be derived from the smallest of nugs and other forms of cannabis trimmings, leaving the largest bits of the flower to be smoked normally. Because of this distinction from other hash oils, nug run has a particularly strong effect and delicious flavor.

Nursery

A gardening business that grows plants for sale or experimentation - a nursery is a great place to gather information about horticulture.


Nutrient

Plant food, essential elements nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) is called 'N-P-K' for short as well as secondary and trace elements fundamental to sustaining plant life.
